Met Gala 2016 Red Carpet Fashion: Mary-Kate, Ashley Olsen Wear Maxi Dresses, Loose-Fitting Coats

January 2024 · 2 minute read

Just another day in the life of the Olsen twins!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen didn’t stray too far from their signature style for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala 2016’s pink, white and red carpet in NYC on Monday, May 2.

While some stars, like Claire Danes (in her incredible light-up Zac Posen number) and Cindy Crawford (in her sexy, silver Balmain gown), directly addressed this year’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, The Row designers, both 29, decided to go the comfier route.

Ashley stunned in a nude floor-dusting dress, which she paired with a shiny gold jacket and a small black clutch. She wore her hair in a messy updo, leaving a few face-framing tendrils tucked behind her ears.

Mary-Kate, who married Olivier Sarkosy in November 2015, contrasted her twin sister in a head-to-toe black sheath dress with sheer sleeves, accessorizing with a black bag. She also opted for artfully messy tresses, which she wore down around her shoulders.

The coordinating ensembles are a perfect match for their typical red carpet uniform of loose-fitting garb. However, in 2015, the Full House alums opted for head-turning dresses at the Costume Institute’s soiree. For the China: Through the Looking Glass red carpet, Mary-Kate donned a damask coat with fur trim while Ashley wore a vintage Victorian-inspired gown.
